Title: Sludge plug installation
Post by: Dibble on 23 Feb, 2025, 16:33
Hi everyone please could i seek advice regarding sludge trap plug
On 66on crank. Differing opinions on installation, some say screw down until tight which brings mine below the flush level which others say is correct.so question then what is the correct way to go? Obviously thread locker/sealer and punched-not too many times ofcourse! Thanks all.
Dave

Depends on the thickness of the plug. You need to measure the depth of the oil feed hole. A narrow plug fully tightened down will obscure the hole cutting off oil supply.

I found this on mine too. Screwed the plug in flush (not to the bottom) and made an indexing mark on the plug, then removed it and relieved the plug at that point.
Don't want to be obstructing that oil flow!

Hi,

As well as the above, there is scope to ease the inboard edge of the oil way coming through the journal.
I used a small stone in a Dremmel to give a more curved edge rather than a sharp angle.
