I am still having problems with the charging on my C15G, I have a Boyer ignition system but I have also put a new alternator stator with rectifier/relay unit to convert the system from 6v to 12v.
Obviously there must be a way to get this charging although I cannot find any wiring diagram that will show me where I am going wrong, I am getting a good charge AC from the alternator but nothing out of the R/R. Nothing across the battery either. Does anyone have an up to date wiring diagram? I think that it must be something simple, trouble is there are so many conflicting wiring diagrams for different dates.
Many thanks in advance TTJohn
If you tell us what sort of reg/rec you have fitted it will make it easier to suggest possible problems. Simply out, the reg/rec should have 2 wires going in from the alternator, and a postive / negative output. If you disconnect the latter 2 from the bike's harness, is there a voltage across them when the engine is running?
On my Bantam I've fitted a reg/rec and grown out most of the wiring. I've replaced it with something from the Bsntam Club website posted by ' Lone Wolf'.
Firstly it is a regulator /rectifier.
How many wires is your new stator , 2 or 3 wires.

I have two wires coming from stator as it's 12v, I also had a R/R from Goff which was supposed to be the one to use, I have since changed for a Wassel type and it's still the same. I have checked the output from the R/R but nothing coming out. I am seriously thinking about going back to the original 6v.
Hello again,
Did you change only the stator? Could it be that your rotor and stator are mismatched?
It may be worth refitting your original stator, joining two of the wires together so you only have two outputs and then connecting these to the reg/rec.
BTW The reg/rec will be sensitive to polarity as regards earthing ... ask me how I know!😖
Regards
OK 2 wires coming from the new stator.
As Stu says , check the ID of the stator and the OD of the rotor,
From memory the rotor must be 74mm and the air gap between rotor and stator will be about 6 or 8 thou or certainly minimal.
The 2 wires go to the 2 yellows on the RR
Leaving 2 output wires from RR
Red from RR to bike earth (unless you're converting to neg earth)
Black from RR to battery
If you're able, just make up 2 dummy output wires from RR momentarily, 1 to earth and 1 to the battery,
Run the bike and you should get around 14v charging the battery.
Once you achieve this, worry about ammeter etc
Just ensure you match the earth polarity on this dummy set up to how the bike is wired

have a look here, this ays it all
Have you tried taking the voltage across the R/R output when disconnected from the rest of the harness? I mean in the diagram linked above, disconnect the middle wire and take the voltage across the disconnected wire from the R/R and the earth wire.
It is worth noting the regulator is usually a zener diode that "shorts" the coil above (say) 14V. This prevents overcharging the battery and blowing bulbs and fuses. When one revs the engine the output of the coil will rise and the zener may come into operation. that will affect measured output. S0 best test the system at "tick over" or a little higher.
Any chance of a picture? Sometimes it helps.
Hello all
I do have that diagram and have tried to go with it, trouble is, there is no connection on 12 of the ignition switch so I by passed that and went direct to 12a and as it seems I have all the lighting circuit but no ignition, getting peed off with it now, think I'll put it into Road Star and let them have a go at it.
Why not just link the lighting feed to the ignition feed then?
Well, after some considerable headaches I believe I have cracked it. I have a spark on the ignition and I thought I would ignore the ammeter and just wire the R/R to the avo and check, I kicked it over with plug out and have good amperage and good voltage, so I hope that is an end to my problems on that side of it.
Thanks all for the advice and tips.
TTJohn
Is there any chance you could explain in more detail how you fixed this? I'm not sure what the 'avo' is?
Old name for a multi-meter.
