Title: Engine mounting bolt torques
Post by: hoogerbooger on 21 Jan, 2025, 11:11
From my searches it looks like BSA didn't provide any....or give any advice for these bolts on a a B40 or even the later models.

(presumably torque wrenches weren't widely used then)

So what is the best advice? Just make sure they are good and tight? Use loctite blue? Make sure the original type of shake proof washers fitted?

Looking in the Technical handbook for my b40wd there are torque settings for quite a few things, but nothing for the engine mounts...

I have only ever used the "good and tight but not stripped" approach to tightening frame mounting bolts. I have never had one rattle loose.

They should be 'king tight" but not up to the "oh feck" torque.

I should imagine the assemblers on the line at Small Heath (particularly for the cycle parts) wouldn't have a clue what a torque wrench actually was, and it's hardly critical anyway.

I check for buttons on my elbow and try to set it within that range.

I rarely use a torque wrench.....but find torque settings still useful to calibrate my head/elbow .....and compare with similar fixings/ tasks
