Following on from my previous post, here is the photo of my new Amal side cover, complete with the three 'dinks' .
It seems that you cannot append photos to existing posts.
Anyway, I suspect that when it was cast the back die didn't line up correctly with the front die, so the dinks should have lined up with the holes.
Thankfully it didn't stop the lid from making a good seal.
Now I've never seen that before. I would give it back as those "dinks" will make a good seal less likely.
I hate modern repro pattern parts with a passion.
How/why was allowed to pass QC?
("Don't have it" would be the cynical answer..)
I queried it with the supplier but was told that they are all like that. I know that my original wasn't.
I suspect that the whole batch was wrongly made by mistake.
I am tempted to fill the dinks with some sort of epoxide filler to make it good.
And.. yes... I hate pattern parts too! It isn't the first time for me that I have returned new parts which are glaringly deficient.

I don't think it is as bad as you think. The seal only occurs 1/8 inch around each of the holes, and 1/8 inch all the way around the outer edge of the cover.
Look at the carb body to see if these areas are flat. If not then a sheet of wet+dry on the melamine kitchen table should be used to get a flat surface. 600 or 1200 grade should be Ok, and use just a couple of strokes to remove any high spots.
.
Well, as it stands it is making a reasonable seal. In that case I might just leave it alone for a bit and monitor it.
Good idea, as Amal gaskets and seals tend to swell slightly over the first 24 hours or so and make a better seal.
