Title: A10, DBD34 Center Stand Query
Post by: chrisf-1 on 26 Dec, 2024, 20:25
Hi everyone I hope someone can be of some help with my problem I own a DBD34 and also would like to add I am not petite and quite capable of putting a swinging arm A10 on its center stand without to much effort, I have looked and handled a few A10's in my time and my present DBD34 Goldie I cannot get on the stand without assistance also the feet of the stands look different the Goldie on the stand appears to be on tiptoe and looks all wrong on a hot day  I am sure the feet would dig into the tarmac, can anyone tell me if a stand from an A10 will fit on my Goldie many thanks Chris

I have done it the other way round, fitting a B series stand on a Shooting Star. I found that the spring was on the other side, so that I had to weld a spring mount on the other side of the frame

The A10 type roll on centre stand mounts differently to the earlier type.

The early type sits between the mounting brackets and bears directly on the frame cross tube when the bike is on the stand. You often see these tubes with dents and damage where the stand meets it and some owners repair it with a suitably shaped strip of steel.

The roll on type was introduced on the twins and B31/33 for 1958 and sits either side of the mounting brackets. It uses a different shaped mounting bracket and bears on the bracket not the tube when the bike is on the stand. The photos show the roll on type brackets.

I think the dimension between the brackets is the same for both types of stand so the early stand will probably fit the later frame but you will need to do some extra work to fit the later stand to your Gold Star.

The first of the roll on stands had the spring on the right leg and from around May 1959 it was moved to the left side. Factory replacement stands were fitted with spring mounts on both sides to suit both spring positions.

I would love to get a couple more years riding this bike before my body says no more, have you any idea what other work would be involved to make the later A10 type fit apart from moving the spring post, many thanks for your reply

Sorry don't know the answer to that.
