Hi again everyone I have a problem with my DBD34 running a Mikuni carb, the bike starts and runs easily from cold or hot but only on choke it cannot be ridden because it bogs down when trying to pull away, everyone including myself says pilot jet, it is not the problem, I sent the carb back to original suppliers who serviced it and bench tested it and told me if I still have a problem it is not the carb, and yes I still have a problem, if you move the throttle to quick it does not rev and dies, as you can imagine trying to pull away with a RRT2 box is impossible any suggestions gratefully received thanks Chris
Hi,
Think some sort of that mikuni licensed Micarb carbs are installed in the old RE bullets.
When I had one usually the problem was:
-air leakage on connection to the head
- choke not closing fully (leaking)
I guess you have checked that already?
Are you in the UK?
I am happy to lend you a suitably modded and jetted (2-stroke to 4-stroke) Amal 1036 I have spare. I use one on my ABSAF powered DBD. I'd like it back once problem sorted!
I think I offered a new GP slide if the carb body of your GP is not knackered on another thread.
You can then prove if it is the carb or other fault.
Long list of things to check:
As @Dan_B33 mentions an inlet tract air leak somewhere springs to mind, being anything from poor gasket/o-ring, cracked manifold, cracked head or leaking inlet valve seat due to no tappet clearance would be my thoughts to exclude. Magneto not being up to snuff would be typically be poor starting or non-starting when hot, although too tight a points gap can give poor power when pulling away....
Presume you tried premium fuel, new plug (18thou gap), plug cap and solid copper core HT lead?
Tappets adjusted correctly using correct process (see manual for sequence)
Correct points gap (clean and gapped to 12-14thou)
Petrol tank clean (filters on taps clean).
I am in the UK. Many thanks for your kind offer but it hopefully will not be needed as I have got the bike booked in with Phil Pearson Jnr as I am not having it as a garage ornament for another summer and he is confident of solving it thanks again have a merry Xmas and a happy new year Chris

Good
Phil P Senior built my small fin motor for me (few years ago now) and I would have bought the 600 motor from him (vs ABSAF) had he not retired. I'm sure he passed on lots of knowledge and I get the impression that Phil Snr is struggling to stay out of his workshop and retired!!
