I want to rewire my newly acquired 1970 A65 Thunderbolt.
I'm trying to find a ready made harness, but not having much luck.
The Lucas harness for a 1970 Thunderbolt is listed as LU54955258. It's widely available, but unfortunately doesn't include headlamp wiring.
Does anyone know of a ready made complete harness including headlamp wiring.
Many thanks in advance.
The Lucas branded harness should include the wiring in the headlamp. I bought one for my 1970 Firebird which is the same as you'd obtain except there's no provision for the ammeter on mine as one wasn't fitted by BSA. Mine even has the 2 bulb holders for the oil and high beam lights plus the sidelight and the big rubber grommet for the harness to pass through the bottom of the casing. They even include indicator wires front to back as BSA did (green/white and green/red). You just won't get the headlamp bulb connector and short wires, but they're easily obtainable and you may want to upgrade to H4 type bulb, so the BPF connector wouldn't be any good. HTH

Thanks for that. Interesting.
Do you happen to know what the Lucas branded part number was?
Mine is LU54955720 (BSA p/n 19-1324). The one you need, as you know is LU54955258 (BSA p/n 19-1312), the main difference being yours has the additional wiring for the ammeter as stated before. And apologies but got carried away regarding warning light provision. Mine has the wiring and bulb holder for the Ignition/oil pressure light but only the wiring to the headlamp lucar connector, so I would need the high beam bulb holder and wiring which I have with the old setup. The other 2 bulb holders and wiring are for the Speedo/Tacho bulbs. If you're using a Tricon dip switch as fitted originally, the wiring should come with it to pass inside the headlamp case. Looking at what is available from current suppliers, the option may be a Ducon (Dip and horn) as opposed to Tricon (Dip, Horn and Ignition cut out)

Unfortunately, LU54955258 is only the main harness and doesn't include the headlamp wiring.
If LU54955720 includes headlamp wiring, I wonder if I can use that with a bit of adaptation.
Unfortunately, I'm very ignorant of motorcycle electrics so it needs to be as simple as possible.
Trying giving ferret a call and asking him if it is possible to adapt it.
What leads you to believe that LU54955258 doesn't include headlamp wiring? As far as I'm aware, you should recieve the same as I have plus the ammeter wiring. It was only on the later OIF A65 that there were separate looms for main and headlamp. If you're going by the part numbers in the BSA parts book, there was a part number for headlamp and loom [harness] which was 19-1309, but that was the headlamp plus full wiring loom (LU54955258). Again as I stated before, you may have to obtain a few additional bulb holders/wires for inside the headlamp, but these are easily obtainable.

I've bought LU54955258 and got the wiring diagram.
I can't see how to upload a copy here.

ferret?
He builds handmade wiring looms which he will only do on the actual bike. He is not a great fan of off the shelf wiring looms but if you explain your problem he may be able to give you some pointers. Just search for Ferrets motorcycle rewires. There is actually a house wiring company with the same name.😁
