Post by: Dave Halsall on 15 Dec, 2024, 10:46
Good morning all l have  a 1972 b50ss  that  l want  to repaint tank  mudguards  and side panels  as close  to the flamboyant  candy  red colour it appears to be  a metallic  colour
Would any  one  know  a UK colour  match  close to this  please?  Many thanks in anticipation for any help.  Cheers

Candy colours are usually achieved by first spraying a metallic (gold or silver) coat then following up with what is called a dye (red in your case). I did a Honda tank this way using earosols last year and it worked quite well if a bit nerve-racking - about 10 coats each applied with a gap of 10 minutes or so.

I would contact a local paint supplier for advice. My place was very helpful. The metallic dosn't show up well in the photos.

Thanks for that lan you look to have  made  a nice  job using  aerosol.  Will visit  my auto paint supplier  and look  at some colour  chips  l am sure  I will  find  something  close  and luckily  the tank  has the original  paint  on it though  very  faded the underneath  looks as l will  get  a match from that   cheers

I Have a GL1000 and it's getting candy red , you can adjust the coats of dye to lighten or darken your colour , 3 to 4 coats is normally recommended .I ended up with a combination of brands , I had ordered some SEM brand but they sent me some House of color ! . True candy apple red, is over gold . The silver I'm using is DNA smashed metal a medium fleck,  im sure I will make it look better than it does now .
