Title: 1968 lightning inner timing cover .
Post by: tdc on 21 Nov, 2024, 14:30
Still having probs .refitting inner cover.is the gearchange quadrant spring and stop plate fitted after or before replacement of inner cover.if spring and stop plate are fitted before how is the quadrant engaged with the cam plate .or if spring and quadrant are fitted after the inner cover is in place how is this achieved ? I do hope that this is clear . This is the first unit con.that I have ever worked on. before I did have a Mk 2 Spitfire from new but never had it long enough to put serious spanners on it .Thanks .R.

Hello Tdc, if I understand you correctly. First instal the quadrant on the right place engaging the camplate. You can check this position by turning to every gearchange with the lever on. 1 up neutral 2/3/4 down.
Then mount the inner cover, with return spring and stop plate on the quadrant.
Hopefully this helps?

Gr gup.
