Title: Spark plugs
Post by: Cyclops on 15 Nov, 2024, 14:25
'69 Firebird (high comp eng.) Fitted with Boyer electronic ignition. Have been using resistor type NGK BR8ES plugs. Is this ok or should i revert to non-resistor plugs.

Well in my opinion I would either use resistor spark plugs and Non resistors plug caps ,or the other way round , but that's only my opinion, regards Roy

resistive plug caps are either 5K or 10K ohms
R spark plugs have an internal 5K resistor
so only use a 5k plug with a 5k cap

originally there would have been copper ht wires with a screw on 10k Champion cap
too much resistance gets in the way of the spark reaching the plug and can cause the spark to find an alternative way to earth

I would ask Boyer 01622 730939
I have always found them very helpful when phoning for advice.

The Boyer instructions I have say either resistor cap or plug. Like Dean I've found them very helpful.
