1) I feel a numpty asking this, but any suggestions on a good tool to get to/adjust the clutch centre nut when the cover is on. Seems to be a 7/16" nut, but my ring spanner, which looks quite deeply set, isn't deeply set enough. Can't find any bespoke offering on-line. Wondering if I need to get a deep 7/16" socket and do some alterations to it ? advice welcome.
The clutch starts disengaging with very little movement of the lever....seemingly as soon as the slack in the cable is taken up......so want to check if there is a 1/4 a turn or so of slack from the rod.....or if it is closer and needs adjusting)
2)when the engine is off the clutch and gears don't play ball. It may go into 1st or 2nd v occasionally, and more frequently if I grab and let go the clutch several times....or it may just not. Click up from 2nd to try to get 3rd and it often finds no gear and the wheel can be spun by hand. If it does go into a gear, the clutch lever does not disengage it. So is this most likely a clutch issue with the plates sticking/dragging against the basket?
(With the engine running it so far changes ok, and disengages ok. I haven't noticed any clutch slip or the bike trying to creep forward when the bike is at rest with the clutch level held in)
( to add some possible context the clutch has had more or less nothing to do for 20 years sitting in the garage, with the engine only being started up a few times in neutral, but not run. Just as well as was virtually no oil in the primary case. I filled it last year....and the pretty empty gearbox. It had 2 short runs recently, then I drained the Primary oil......and it came out pretty black. I refilled it. 2 more short runs....oil not black ....so far....but symptoms as described above ? sticky plates?)
I have a cranked ring spanner with about 1" crank on it.
Also an old box spanner , tube spanner , that works well with the screwdriver down the middle
