Hello.
Good morning.
I am French.
my bsa wm 20 has a solo registration card.
I'm going to build a side car for him.
I have to modify my registration document with the mention side car.
can the bsa club certify to me that the bsa wm 20s have received a side car? this to have my registration card modified with the administration in France.
beautiful day.
Patrick.
Patrick I can't give you an "official" answer, but BSA prepared sidecar outfits for the RAF during WW2. I have an RAF parts list for these. They were fitted with a Swallow Model 8 sidecar and 18" wheels with 400-18 tyres.
These same Swallow sidecars were also fitted to Norton 16H, again mainly for the RAF.

Hi,
Google 'AA M20 combination' and you will find lots of images of M20s with sidecars.
Somewhere there is a photo of AA M20 combinations at the BSA factory but I cannot find it at the moment.
Dave.
Ah Yes Dave the AA And lots of other civilian variations, but Patrick specifically asked about the WM20. The WO contracts for the combinations were the only war time frames that BSA fitted with sidecar lugs Ron
Good morning.
Thank you for your precise and rapid responses.
I am looking to have my BSA registration card transformed with the side car mention and your suggestions help me.
Do you know if there is a certificate (approval) from BSA which can prove that the M20 motorcycles were coupled. ?
This is what I'm looking for: a document from the manufacturer that proves it.
Did this document exist in Great Britain?
It is an approval, a certificate of the possibility of putting a side car on the BSA WM20.
I hope the translation will be good (google translate).
I learned about the BSA WM20 by reading the site!
mine would date from 1940. December. it is a civilian a priori, which was bought by the army
she was left in France.
and recovered after the war.
At the time in 1980, we went to scrapyards in Normandy to look for parts!
I am also looking for a rear mounting bracket for the side car on the frame.
or a model to reproduce.
my motorcycle will be hitched on the right!
I hope I don't go overboard with my requests.
Well I'd suggest contacting the BSA Owners club directly or the VMCC and see if they can help with such a document.

Ron.
Hi,
Sorry, I thought all the frames had sidecar lugs in the cast parts of the frame as standard. The 1949 to 1958 parts book shows this. It also has the BSA sidecar chassis that was available to fit to this frame.
I would say that copies of these pages from the parts book could be part of the evidence but the BSAOC may be able to provide some as well.
Have a look at the BSAOC website contact.
Dave.
Thanks a lot !!!
Yes Dave maybe it was a war time economy measure, saving a small amount of steel each time over 1000's of bikes. The war time RAF frames had the rear mounting on the nearside only. Post war frames had them both sides for foreign sales. Also for some reason? BSA used the Swallow chassis. But Norton used there own Chassis for the Swallow Model 8.
I'll scan the relevant pages from the parts list later in case they're of any use to Patrick.
Here in UK, all sidecars fitted after 1986 (or thereabouts) must be fitted to the left side.
Ron
Here are the pages from the parts list. It should be proof enough. Whether or not the French authorities will except them is the question. I can email them if you message me your email. Ron
