Title: Cracking Tank Badges
Post by: Matt Brighton on 19 Oct, 2024, 15:39
I seem to get through these at least a pair per year- I suspect the clip overtensions the screw points so I have ordered yet another pair of badges and some new clips - I will try to ease them out to reduce tension but wonder if anyone else has had same problem and any ideas for a less "stressful on the plastic way of fixing them ?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Matt

depends on which ones.
metal, plastic or plastic with the rubber backings (peardrops)

Sorry - Rocket Gold Star, circular plastic, attached to the clip with x2 tiny countersunk screws- the clip has a tounge that is fed into a small bracket on the tank - hope that makes sense

probably down to the new plastics being used, modern plastic not as much give as olden days.
There has been a spate of the originals being pilfered from parked bikes so best to put cheap ones on if leaving for a while and get some originals for other times.

I would suggest a thin film of rubber (inner tube thickness)underneath, will act as anti vibration and to allow compression/damping to keep tight enough
