Title: Alternative A65 seats?
Post by: Tjwood on 14 Oct, 2024, 11:26
Hi. I'm not overly keen on the original A65 'hump' seat so I was wondering if there's a flatter alternative that can be used on a 1970 Thunderbolt? Perhaps from a different/earlier model of BSA. I'm not well clued up on BSA models so I'm a bit in the dark here. Has anyone out there used a different seat on a pre oil in frame A65?
Thanks
Tony

When I got a Shooting Star for my son it was fitted with a A65 humped seat which I got rid off. If that fitted an A7 would an A or B series seat not fit an A65. Worth borrowing one to try out.

Only one of the the screw mounting holes lined up on mine but it works a treat.

Hi,

The A7/A10 seats will not fit the A50/A65.  The frames are quite different but the early A50/A65 seat was humpless and should at least sit properly on the frame.  I suspect that it is the threaded holes for securing the seat that may be in the wrong place.

Dave.

Thanks everyone. It looks like I may need to buy a repro seat from Phoenix - at least if it doesn't fit I can return it. However, if an early A65 flat seat turns up first, I'll risk getting that - I can probably fabricate some fixings if the holes don't line up properly.
Thanks again
Tony
