Title: Eliminating zener diode wires and wire in reg/rectifier. BSA B25
Post by: AltcarBob on 04 Oct, 2024, 01:11
My Starfire had very dodgy wiring made up from doorbell wire, 13amp house wire, sticky tape and choc blocks. I removed the loom intending to build a new loom but in the end I have bought a new Lucas loom because I got lazy.

How do I modify the loom to eliminate the zener diode wiring and add in the wiring for the regulator rectifier and Boyer ignition box. I also want to change to negative earth so I can fit whizzy LED bulbs and indicators.

As the original loom never had a reg rec and only used the general, you'll have to analyse the wiring diagram for your bike to identify the wires from the alternator (hopefully just 2) and use them for the input of your reg rec.
Use the red output wire from reg rec to charge the battery and black from reg rec to earth.
Obviously , reverse the wires on the ht coil as well.
And fit a fuse if not included already.
The general single wire can be insulated and made safe electrically.

Thanks I meant to ask about swapping the wires on the coil.

The regulator/rectifier can be connected to the three wires that were for the original rectifier. The black wire (negative) of the new regulator will need to be connected to earth aswell.

Won't the new reg come with wiring instructions?
Swapping the coil wires is largely unnecessary too. They work both ways around.
