Hi Everyone, currently trying to restore an old C15 but having issues with the idle. Runs ok on the throttle but doesn't idle very well.
I'm currently looking to set the mixture and idle screws, does any one have a rough idea at how many 'turns' I need on each to get me to a good starting point before fettling to get her dialed in.
Thanks in advanced, :)
About one and a half turns out on the mixture screw is a good starting point.
1.5 turns out from screwed all the way in is a good starting point certainly.
Obviously check your points etc , maybe even valves.
Start from there and see how it goes
Don't be afraid to set the slow running throttle stop a little on the high side, whilst adjusting the mixture.
only once you have the correct mixture do you need to reduce the revs to a suitable tick-over.
It's the same for chainsaws, set the mixture with a high idle speed, irrespective of if the chain is still running,
then reduce the speed to get the chain to just stop, without making any more mixture adjustments.

sounds good, assuming just have it idling high until mixture set?

sounds good to me! makes sense. can the idle just not be set high in order to keep it revving?
What's the best method for cleaning the points? any chemicals/abrasives to avoid?
:)
As for cleaning the points, I have some metal nail files that have their pointed end removed, that work well.
If the points are really pitted then you could use an oil-stone to remove the spike on the -ve terminal and the hollow on the +ve terminal.
Although if they are that worn, it might be time for a new set.
