Title: RGS Silencer have you recently replaced ?
Post by: Matt Brighton on 18 Sep, 2024, 15:32
Hello

Has anyone here with the Siamese pipes on their RGS (either Genuine.... or a Replica like mine) recently bought a new silencer ?

Mines a bit denty and the baffle rattles - Im weighing up the difference between the £70 one from Classic bike parts in cheshire or the Armours one at about £120.

I want a chrome one with the offset baffles to get as near as a twin can,  to the lovely Twitter of a single Goldie.

Hope everyone is enjoying whats lefts of the summer - its lovely here at the moment in sunny Brighton UK

Thanks in advance of any replies

Matt

Personally, I've always stayed with Armours , lovely reliable helpful British firm and perfect chrome quality

I used to spend a lot of time reworking armours system so they fitted the bike they were meant for. Fecked silencers are made on the premises and triple chromed in Birmingham.

Hi,

Recently had to send a silencer back to Armours for poor quality control.  There was some rust in a couple of places.  The replacement was better but still has a tiny bit of un-chromed nickel.  This is on a plunger framed A10 and the second set.
The pipes were/are a snug fit and caused the silencer to touch the frame. A bit of judicious pressure relieved this but it should have been better.
Also, on the plunger, the main stand rests up against the silencer and on the first one there was a proper cut out and insert welded in place for it to go but on the new one it is just a dent.
The first set has lasted over 20 years and a lot of miles and was still serviceable but starting to look a bit tired.  I doubt very much that the new set will last half of that time.
Next time it will probably be one from Feked.
Mmmmm....This my on wife's bike and she is 6? so will there be a need for one in 10 years time?

Dave.

After three bad experiences I now avoid Feked like the plague.
Unbelievably bad customer service..never again.

I was reccomending the quality not the service. If i remember correctly the a10 was one i corrected so the fecked version  fitted properly.

Thanks again for all the replies

Im looking at the one from Classic Bike Shop thats  £70 inc P&P .

Whatever one I end up getting Ill post how it fits and what the quality is like (fit and finish)

Thanks for sharing your experiences.... Im a bit surprised about the Armours comments..... as I had heard that although they were the dearest the quality was alot better ?

I will also give Fecked a call too

Thanks again

Matt

I had one from the Classic Bike Shop fitted (he said quietly) to a Honda XBR500. It seemed to be excellent quality and gave a very nice exhaust note although without the twitter (probably as it wasn't a Goldie engine!). Sadly the bike was stolen before I had the chance to use it much.

Yeah, it was the service I (didn't) receive after high-lighting the appalling quality of the products.
Shite stuff from a shoddy firm. Never again.

I have had poor quality and service and conversly  good quality and service from Fexed. A bit like the curates egg.
Not a good way to run a business.

I have only had poor service from feked so only used them twice. Draganfly are far better in my opinion.

I too had an xbr 500 - lovely bike - single cyl with twin exhaust ports -  Honds also  did a "classic" version with wire spoke wheels and dresse3d it like a 60's bike -

smooth reliable oil tight not too heavy etc etc etc ..... really enjoyed it   - but I wouldnt swap my RGS rep for anything else tho

Oh - and I have ordered the £70 silencer from Classic Bike Shop of Redditch  - Ill let you all know what its like - fit , finish and sound - apparently its got the offset baffles too... - It arrives next week and once I have put it on ill post what I think of it.

I am purely refering to the exhaust systems. Unless they have changed the silencers are made on site and the front pipes bent up in Poole. I know just how bad certain peolle there can be i stand by how good the exhaust were.

Pleased to report that I am very happy with the £70 silencer from Classic Bike Shop

The fit finish and exhaust tone are all excellent - it has the offset baffles as per original design for the siamese pipes

If anyone is going to Ardingly show late october I am showing my bike there so hope to meet some of you there

Glad you're pleased Matt, I buy quite a bit of stuff from them as they're only round the corner and find their prices beat most ebay ones plus no issues returning things I haven't used.

I have the impression that the shop used to be an old-style bike shop in Redditch in the dim & distant past.
