Title: A10 Swingarm to Plunger Frame swap ?
Post by: Kevwana on 06 Sep, 2024, 21:15
Can anyone enlighten me as to whether engine and running gear from an A10 Swing Arm (54 =>)is compatible with a 'Plunger frame ((50-57)
I know there were some changes to the Swing arm model like relocation of tool box and revised oil tank, and in 57 front and rear hubs were changed up, but wondered if there would be any problems fitting a later model 650 and all the running gear to a plunger frame ?
Any thoughts on this appreciated...

Cheers,

Kev

Plunger bikes are semi-unit while the later bikes are just pre-unit. That in itself should cause major issues.

Ok thanks, I see now that the plunger A10 had a gearbox which bolted to the back of the crankcases, so both casing are different and not interchangeable. cheers, new to classic bikes  :D

Hi Kevwana,

Welcome to classic bikes and BSA.
Please can I ask, why you would want to do this?

Dave.

for the same reason numpties climb mountains...because its there.

why did i spend a fortune converting a early (not that early) harley sportster to a cable operated hydraulic twin disc front brake..because i could

the mother of invention is always in the building (now elvis has left)

Presumably done to improve the braking performance?
How would attempting to fit an unsuitable 650 into an unsuitable 650 frame improve anything?

no, to remove the cylinder from the handle bar. keeps it tidier.
