Post by: chrisf-1 on 12 Aug, 2024, 16:31
Hi everyone I am having a problem with the DVLA getting an age related plate for my Gold star I sent them a copy of a dating letter and explained that for the first 10 years of it's life it was unregistered and a track bike anyway I will attach copies of what I sent and hopefully someone can advise me how to proceed, many thanks Chris

I registered a Greeves last year with a similar letter from the Greeves Riders' Association. I know that the club has to be authorised by DVLA but would have assumed that the BSA Owners' Clud would be acredited - however I note that the letter is 3 years old. Perhaps there is a time limit for these? Or perhaps - more worrying - DVLA rules have changed, although I'm not aware that they have.

I'd suggest getting another letter.

The DVLA will only accept dating evidence issued within 12 months of the application. They dont accept copy documents, they want to see the originals.

However to change add a date of manufacture is a different process to a first registration of an old bike not already on the DVLA database.

To do this they only accept a copy from Glass's check book or a copy from the factory despatch record, exactly as it says in their letter to you. The BSAOC Dating Team are familiar with such requests so I suggest that you contact the dating officer with details of what you want, photos of your bike and the frame and engine numbers and a copy of the DVLA letter. The final decision of course remains with the DVLA.

The procedure was laid out in a DVLA letter of November 2012 to Owners Clubs attached for info..
