Title: Misfiring Lightning
Post by: 72 Lightning on 05 Aug, 2024, 20:18
I have a oil in the frame BSA 650 Lighting with a persistent misfire when it gets hot. It is fitted with BOYER electronic ignition which has been back to BOYER to be tested and is OK. It also has a new electronic regulator/rectifier fitted.  If I wire the Boyer box direct to the battery the misfire stops. I have checked the connection's in the wiring loom and they appear to be OK. If anybody has any idea as to what could be the cause it would be gratefully appreciated. Summer is running out......

Aren't Boyer systems affected by low voltage seems like you have a.bad connection somewhere.

Short of putting a new wiring loom on dont know what else to try as all connections seem ok

If you have a meter check the resistance of the lead from where it joins the battery to where it joins the boyer.

i am speaking only as to what i found on my bike the other day.

the wire from the box of frogs to the coil had a dodgy loose connection at the coil end and i was getting an indifferent earth on the way back to the battery and frame. it was easily remedied with a pair of pliers. just nipped the connector up a smidge abracadabra.

from what i can see of my boyer its almost (almost) a separate circuit to the rest of the wiring.

what type of fuse, if youre using a fuse, are you using? they can cause problems.

start the baby up in the pitch black and look for sparklers whiist wiggling wires
