Quick query for any owners of plunger frame B31s -
How many links in your rear chain?
NOTE - I'm NOT interested in what the manual says (or what online specs say).
Thanks!
Aw go on! Anyone? Nip out to the garage and count 'em there's a luv
So a week after enquiring on the BSA owners club forum I've not had a single answer about a simple question regarding a very minor detail of a very common BSA. Hmmmmm. Maybe I need to ask elsewhere.
are you thinking the 93 pitches shown in the Technical Data part of the BSA instruction manual is wrong?
Thanks for the reply. No I'm not really doubting the manual as such. Mine needed 96 links when I swapped the chain recently. I used a Regina 520 chain from feked. I first cut it to 94 links which is the number of links of the previous Renolds chain (made in England ::)) but that was too short. I've played around with a half link and now added a couple of full links and it's spot on at 96.
The primary chain has the correct number of links according to the manual and the sprocket tooth counts are correct. The primary chain has 1/2 inch of slack as per the manual.
I'll replace the primary chain shortly so no doubt I'll be messing about with the rear chain again when I do that. I should probably have done them in reverse order.
