Title: Metzeler Block C for a B31?
Post by: Mike9 on 15 Jul, 2024, 16:48
Has anyone tried Metzeler Block C tyres on a B31?  My 59 B31 has a non standard 18inch back wheel, I can get matching Block C, 19 front and 18 rear.

Other option is Dunlop K70 front and K82 rear, Dunlop have advised me that they are a suitable match.

Maybe I should bite the bullet and go back to standard with a 19inch rear rim?

Hi Mike9,

Metzeler Block C ist a good tyre (since some decades) .
But  a Dunlop Tyre looks more British?
I would use what you have or what has the best price.

Thanks for your reply Michael.  I am considering changing to a 19inch rim on the back, but not sure if it warrants the expense.

Hi,

How old is the tyre that you have?  Older ones tend to get hard and less grippy.

Dave.

Thanks for your reply Dave,

Current tyres are front 3.25 X 19 Dunlop K70 Gold Seal and rear Avon SM Mk2 3.50 X 18 (size no longer available).  Both are ancient and have cracked walls, so need replacing ASAP.  If I keep the 18inch rear rim I would like to fit a 3.50 tyre.

Metzeler UK have been unable (and are not interested in finding out) to provide actual width of their Bloc C 3.5 X 18 tyre, where as Dunlop came back with all requested tech details for the K82.  The current rear 3.50 X 18 Avon has a 12mm clearance to the chain guard, so I need to be sure before I commit.
