Title: A65 problem starting
Post by: Mikeo4257 on 10 Jul, 2024, 11:08
Hi can anyone help. I have a 1969 A65 Thunderbolt which has been a problem starter since I've had it, 11years. I purchased a replacement Amal mk1 concentric carburettor which has an adjusting screw on the opposite side to the pilot air adjusting screw. I have cleaned the pilot circuit and get carb cleaner out of the pilot jets but am unsure what impact the additional screw has. With the screw backed off 2 turns I am getting fuel out of the two pilot holes but not in any quantity and the plugs stay dry.Once I get the bike running it is fine and runs really well. Any advice would be welcome.

fiddle with a bigger pilot jet or two. if nothing else it should give you some idea of the way to go.

i should point out i haven't much experience of amal carbs but you have to start somewhere

Hi,

Is it a 'Premier' Amal?  This has a removable pilot jet which is meant to be screwed fully home but removable for easier cleaning.  The adjuster on the other side is screwed out about 1 1/2 turns as starting point for adjustment.
