Title: Why are auction listings titles far from the truth?
Post by: cranwell on 09 Jul, 2024, 11:12
Hi All.
Historics have a couple of pre-war BSA's in their 20th July auction which interested me.
The 1st is a rare  M24 Gold-star, the frame number given is for an M20/21!  It is shown on George Wanders list as a replica with restamped crankcases. I believe that in the UK, it is the frame that is the identity of a bike so how can this be honestly listed as a genuine Gold-Star?
The 2nd is a 1937 M23 Empire-Star, Now, this is said to have a 1940/45 frame, a B33 bottom end and a M22 top end not not too sure how that can be listed as such. The frame and engine numbers quoted, without any prefixes, seem to bear no relationship to BSA numbers.
I'm not against replicas or mismatched parts bikes as long as it is made clear and people are aware of what they are buying.
Any thoughts welcomed.
Regards, Pete
