I fitted a new rocker cover gasket last week, using silicone gasket sealant on both sides. A short ride round the block and back to check for leaks and found there was oil on top of the cover. Assuming the metal is not porous, I came to the conclusion that it must be coming from one or both of the 2 studs which are not on the gasket face, i.e. the front and rear centre ones. Has anyone else experienced this, and come up with a cunning solution?
Hi,
These studs do not have to be very tight so try a fibre washer or an "o" ring. Ditto the front one. As this cover may need to be taken off for maintenance only use sealant on the side that is going to the head surface and use a good smear of grease on the other - I use high melting point.
Dave.
Thanks for your suggestion Dave, O rings was what I was thinking. I'll try it and report back
The rocker cover now seems to be dry so the O rings appear to be the solution and for once I seem to have an oil tight engine.
