Title: Lightweight fork seals
Post by: Stubaker58 on 13 May, 2024, 18:45
Hi,
Has anyone ever found a way to stop the oil on the D14 lightweight forks from getting part the "seals"??!
On my forks, which have less than 1000 miles since a rebuild, the oil has exited though the seals into the non standard gaiters. When I loosened the jubilee clip it flooded onto the garage floor!
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I did try , with reasonable success , pure standard O rings.
Just be careful to get the X section diameter to get the O ring into the holder and exert enough wiping seal on the stanchion.
Worth a try.

Thanks Richard,
What weight oil did you use?

I had some spare 5/30 I think , should be sae20 , but I figured if it leaked out , anything would do.
Try to get a snug fit into the square recess of the top bush holder and enough protruding towards the leg to give e decent wiping fit,
Can't be much worse !!

Upon further investigation it looks like it's only one side where the seal has failed.
I'll replace the seal (agsin!) and see how that goes.
What size is the small nut at the top of the spring scroll? I need to turn down a socket to fit inside the large nut.
Thanks sgsin

Something like a 3/16 whit or 7/16 afternoon but I used an old socket and ground the walls thinner
