Title: Wassell carbs
Post by: john sever on 01 May, 2024, 06:16
Hi
I have fitted Wassell 6 Series carbs to my recently restored 1969 A65L (a few derogatory comments expected  :) )
Cant get the bike to idle smoothly, and (with the air cleaners removed)  I noticed if I put my hand over the carb intakes the l/h one has strong suction while the r/h one has virtually nothing. When revved, both have good suction. Have checked that the chokes are fully up and carefully synced the carbs, so any ideas on what may be the problem? Maybe a blocked pilot jet?
Thanks in advance
John

Presume you mean 9 series 30mm carbs?

If you're getting no suction then either the valves are not opening at all, or they are not closing. Or you haven't fitted the spark plug.

Thanks Allan, yes sorry, they are 9 series. Yes, spark plugs in, and the bike runs fine at revs, so presumably the valves are operating ok.

Ran a 0.9mm drill bit thru the cross holes and longitudinal holes in both pilot jets - have nice even tickover now.
