Hi Bob,

Didn't the '62 A65 have a seat without a hump as standard?  Try RK Leighton.

Dave.

i tried leightons. couldnt help . only had covers. i needed a base,

thanks for the insight Roy. think it may be the way to go.
i did think about a oif seat and a bit of modification but not sure about it.

An oif seat would look like a dogs dinner on an early A65.

Seat pans are getting hard to get hold of because P+P seating used to supply most of the pans to most companies churning seats out. So burton bike bits, leightons etc no longer can sell much in the way of seats, or foams. Leightons make their own covers.

so i got myself a bazing saddles seat and guess what? it didnt fit. too much meat an the lower oart of the front bracket. fouled the frame so wouldnt engage.
easy to fix but premium british made? i think not.a bit disappointing really but not surprising.

out with the file methinks

I bought one from them and was reasonably satisfied. The seat in general seems reasonably well finished, the front mount fitted well but only one of the threaded mounting holes underneath matched up with the corresponding hole in the frame.
So overall marks out of 10 I would give them a seven.

think its the same on mine. ive had to relieve some of the meat on the front bracket.it was fouling the frame.
havent bolted it up yet but not sure both are going to line up.

while we are talking about those bolts what threads are in the seat base. i assumed it was 5/16 bscy but the dont screw in by hand, have tried unc, unf and m8 but none of them do up by hand either. there is rust on the seat threads so maybe thats the cause ???

If its the same as original seat bolts they should be whitworth, 1/4 if I remember right.

I have an early flat pan (original) seat for my A65, it has BSF bolts if I remember right. There are only a small hand full of actual Whitworth bolts/studs used on the A65's and those were in the engine. sump cover into the casing and 2x inner rocker cover studs, again into the aluminium.

Doubt that. More like 5/16 BSF I would have thought.

Now that's the size I originally thought but I checked today when I took the seat off and mine are definitely whitworth but who knows what's happened in the last 60 years  :)
