Title: Timewarp filter cooler
Post by: Cypress on 23 Apr, 2024, 09:28
Hi Guys. I have a 1971 OIF Lightning that has a Timewarp filter cooler fitted. These seem to have been out for 20 years ? or so. Are there any reports on how these worked and is it worthwhile keeping ? A previous owner has also fitted a strainer in the oil line to the engine (pump)
Thanks Pete

Take the filter out. It needs to be in the return.line.

Not heard that name before, however if it's one of these (often called a Charlie's filter) https://www.thebonnevilleshop.com/product/triumph-650-t120-750-t140-bonneville-tr7-oil-in-frame-filter-kit-pn-tbs-0004-1/

Then you should be fine, but the feed pipe will need to be cut off and welded up at the hole. Some people worry about the A65's not being able to scavenge properly with these filters, however a good filter should flow no less than if it wasn't there and as it is completely immersed in oil, the head pressure and lack of air in the pipe work will ensure there isn't any issues.
