Hi all,
I am fitting a new mainshaft in my C25/B25 gearbox and I need to remove the 1st (BSA part number 41-3089) and 3rd (BSA part number 41-3063) gear pinions so that these can be reused. I have looked carefully at the parts book and I can't see a circlip or anything else holding the gears onto the mainshaft, other than friction caused by a tight fit. I have tried a gear puller behind the 3rd gear, hoping that this would pull both 3rd and 1st off the timing-side end of the mainshaft but nothing moved; I applied some heat and a "gentle" tap on the puller legs but still nothing. I backed off before doing anything else as I really do not want to damage anything. There is not enough space between the two gears to apply a puller on just the 1st gear. I have searched this forum and wider afield to see if I can find some advice but I have drawn a blank. What am I missing here? Can anyone please give some advice about how I might proceed.
Thanks if you can,
Rev Kev
Hi,
It could be that these pinions were assembled using an hydraulic press and so may need one to get them off. It may be worth asking an engineering workshop to press the shaft out of the gears.
