Hi,
Thinking about getting some new tappet adjusters but which ones? Mushroom or standard type? Square top or hex key?
Does anyone have any preferences or have any failure to report?
I had the end come off a hex key type. Just a few mms as if the hardened bit came off. Could have been a disaster.
Dave.
I have been using the mushroom headed ones with hex key on the Lightning since 2007, never had a problem.
I have another set still in a bag with a screw driver type slot in them, been holding on to them for many a year. The Thunderbolt has the standard adjusters as I didn't want to mess around struggling to get the pushrods in place (as I do with the Lightning). Cant really comment on performance gains as they are totally different bikes, different CCs, different cams, different heads, exhaust etc etc. The only thing it shares is its appearance.
This happened to a friend of mine with his triumph, couple weeks ago.
Hi,
This what I refer to above but it was not even a mushroom one. I have just been reading about these adjusters failing so I will use some good proper BSA ones that I have but may fit lash caps to protect the valves if I can get them.
Dave.
Hi,
Has anyone fitted lash caps to their valves? It looks like it could be a good idea and PES offer what will be a quality product.
Dave.
Hi,
Decided not to fit lash caps as I found some new adjusters in among other bits. Two types, one slightly shorter than the other.
The shorter ones have a very gentle, almost imperceptible curve and a quite smooth - probably BSA ones. The others must be pattern ones as they have not been finished very well with machining marks on the face. The circular marks are detectible with a thumb nail so in use could be quite abrasive on the valve stem until worn down.
I decided to give one a bit of polish to improve the finish. Good enough now perhaps.
Dave.
