Title: Chaincase side footrest
Post by: nige63 on 18 Mar, 2024, 12:49
Hi Should the rod that holds the footrest have a splined end to stop the footrest  from moving. It is on a bsa M21 1961.

You should have a tube (BSA part no. 65-4811, Footrest rod distance tube) with external splines on which the footrest fits as I've indicated on the pic below.  The footrests are then held in place by a long stud (BSA part no. 66-4900, Footrest Rod) which if I remember correctly has 1/2" x 20 thread either end and is approx 13 7/8" long.

Hi Thanks for the replys. I was going by Draganflys pictures and the one like yours Ian says its for A/B Group swinging arm. B/M plunger seems to have nothing to support the chaincase side.

Hello Nige. I'm basing my advice on experience with both my rigid framed WM20 and plunger framed M33. They both use the parts as specified. You need 2 x Footrest rod distance tube which have splined ends (one for each side).  Also on the primary side there are two 'bobbins' that act as spacers ( one inside the primary case and one between the rear of the inner primary case and the footrest distance tube pegged cast end (Pics should explain better) plus some cork 'gaskets' for sealing.  HTH
