Hi, I'm looking for advice/info on rear mudguard mounting details - the bike is a non-standard Golden Flash fitted with chrome mudguards. I removed the rear one to investigate /resolve the tyre binding against the mudguard when the suspension compresses over bumps in the road. I'm starting to wonder if the mudguard is suitable at all. There is no saddle clamp around either frame tube (should there be one for each tube?) in the centre of the mudguard as the shape of it means it's nowhere near the tubes! In addition the side mounting brackets don't look correct, they are just flat steel and were attached to the oil tank& tool box mounting bolts rather than the shock mount bolts. If I need to replace it I would be interested in any recomended aluminum replacements, maybe shorter than standard.
See pictures, the seat mount is also decidedly homemade which does attach to the shock mounts!
Thanks in advance,
Phil.
On some models there is a thick rubber spacer (approx 15mm) that goes between the guard and frame tube, there is an inner plate that goes under the guard and longish bolts that come up with nyloc nuts topside on th p-clamp.
Does your frame have a transverse bracket welded at the bottom of the frame behind the centre stand for two bolts for L-shaped bracket for two bolts to go into bottom of guard? Some had this whereas others ( more scrambles etc) had two u-shaped brackets for frame tubes and mudguard.
Are those side plate brackets std? I'm only familiar with the ones that bolt to stud on frame with spacer bobbin and longer top suspension unit bolt.
Hi,
Can you post a side view of the bike with the mudguard fitted? It looks like it has the wrong curve/radius. The seat mount would have been attached to the mudguard.
Dave.

Glad you said that as I was thinking same thing it's either sat too low down or radius is wrong.

Thanks for replying, It does have the transverse bracket behind the main stand, does this mean that it wouldn't have/need the clamp/s around the frame tubes?

Thanks for replying, here's a photo:
Hi,
Although the mudguard is not mounted as standard the curve and clearance does not look too bad. I think that there is about 4" of travel on the rear suspension and it looks like you have that. However, with the correct mounts it would sit a bit higher.
Have the springs gone a bit soft? Try putting the suspension on the highest setting and see if that helps although the correct mounts would also be a good idea.
Dave.
