Title: Gandini piston in C15
Post by: KernowPete on 13 Mar, 2024, 12:05
Anyone put a Gandini piston in a C15? If so what clearance did you use? They won't give me a number. I have an aluminium barrel on mine so I guess that will have some effect. Tempted to just buy it and chuck it in the oven with the barrel and see how the dimensions change.

I have used GPM Gandini many times ,on average. Piston to bore clearance used 0.0045 alloy barrel and cast iron liner , std cast barrel may be 0.005  ( no seizures ) , that's my preference but please await more reply's

Hi Pete,  I was a automachinist for years , alot of pistons already have the correct clearance on them i:e measure the piston 90 degrees at gudeon height then calculate your new bore size . Standard size plus oversize is your new bore size , so if the piston measures .004 under the new bore size that is the correct clearance , usually it's up to the machinist , if .001" more was required like for someone racing .. some piston come with instructions to measure its size say ½ down/or up from the bottom of the piston, depends which way up you hold your piston while measuring it . Cheers .
