The attachment holes in my centre stand are elongated. I spoke to my friendly engineer and he reckoned it would cost more than a new stand price to fix. So I was thinking of trying to fill the excess hole with silver solder and then dremel as required. I've not used silver solder for forty years or more... is this idea likely to work?
(I don't have welding / brazing skills and equipment.)
From experience during my working life I have done extensive welding brazing and silver soldering. Silver soldering can be the hard type of silver soldering which needs the heat of a blow torch to apply or the soft type which can be applied with a soldering iron, the soft type would be totally useless the hard type would give some benifet for a short time maybe a year or so. Ideally the holes should welded up and redrilled for a permanent solution brazing would be a second choice and could last a few years. Another possibilty would be to bore out bigger and fit some machined bushes to suit.
