Title: B31 Battery Fuse
Post by: Fraz on 25 Feb, 2024, 19:23
What rating of fuse should I put inline to my battery?

The new battery came with a 10A but it blew

I'm not sure if I shorted something whilst messing with the headlight wires or whether it blew before?

Thanks

10amp is a reasona le size to have, giving good protection.

To save popping fuses whilst you're fiddling , use the spade terminals of the dead fuse and solder 2 wires to them.
Then take these 2 wires and solder them to a 5watt bulb.

If there is a short the bulb will light up.

If no short, it will light up when you turn something  on

I have a 7.5a blade fuse on my 52 dynamo B31. I have a 10a on my later alternator bikes.

I have a 15 amp fuse on my dynamo M33. It protects against shorts as I have discovered, but it's a high enough rating to be okay if I sound the horn when the headlight is on; it's a big horn and uses 6 amps all on its own. 15 amps is only 90 watts, after all.
