Title: C15 Gearbox Mainshaft Oil Seal
Post by: Bulkmeister on 22 Feb, 2024, 14:42
Hi chaps. Wonder if anyone can help me identify the oil seal which is on the kick start end of the gearbox mainshaft of a 1965 C15 gearbox? You can just make it out in the attached photo. It's not listed in the parts list and I've just been into Draganfly and they can't find it listed either. Before I try to measure it's dimensions to try and order something I thought I'd task here. Surely someone else must have change this at some point? Thanks in advance

I thought the only oil seal was in the kick start shaft itself and the final drive end shaft

So it appears in the parts list but what keeps the oil in the gearbox otherwise? And as you can see there was definitely one in there

The compartment formed between the inner cover and the outer cover also contains gearbox oil, it is not sealed off from the compartment holding the pinions so there is no oil seal  on the kickstart end of the mainshaft.

Hi,

Isn't there a seal in the outer cover on the kickstart shaft?  It shows one in the parts book number 11240-3281?

Dave.

I wonder why there was one there on dismantling?

Are you referring to the bush (part no. 40-3007) that is for the clutch pushrod to run through? I've attached a pic from my B44 which is similar to your C15.

No. It was the seal on the outside I was questioning. It's not the clearest in the picture but there if you zoom right in. I appears to have been fitted by a previous owner at some point but it doesn't seem to be listed or required so I won't fit one.
