I have bought a new speedo for my A65 along with a pair of the rubber mounting cups as the old ones had splits in them. As you can see from the pictures the rev counter sits neatly in it rubber cup. However the speedo sits proud having bottomed out in the cup. Either the speedo is too deep and/or the cup is too shallow. Have tried to create more space by removing the bottom layer of rubber from the metal plate that's moulded into the part. This would work if not for the fact that the plate varies in thickness, becoming thicker at the edge. Has anyone come across this problem before? Are there different cup sizes (!?) or do the speedos case sizes vary across the models or years? Thanks. Rob
I looked into this recently and it seemed all the replacement speedos I could find online were deeper than the original cups I had and would sit proud of the cups as yours do, one shop told me as much.
Looking at the measurements I could find it also didn't look like replacing the cups with the speedo would solve the problem either
I decided to send my original away for repair and refurbishment which I'm still waiting on.

I bought also new replacement speedos, they are to high for the rubber cups. I cut out the bottom , there is a steel plate in it. And made a different mounting. See picture,
Now it looks like original except for the smiths stamp.
Made a test on an old rubber if the idea would work, it looks fine now...... i think 8)
The speedos are bolted in rubber to avoid resonating, the rubbers are just clamped around the speedos.
If not glue them with some dots on the bracket plate.
I didn't glue them it's sits tight for over 2 years now.

Sorry to butt in.................
But speaking of Mounts...... the ones for the BSA RGS smiths mounts do anyone Know where to get the ones that sit more upright than the Normal ones do, as they are lots of them ones about but been trying to see where I can get two of the ones that sit the clocks more towards the rider ?
Just incase anyone Knows where to go........ there is some nice s/steel ones on ebay for about £16 but they the wrong ones I want ( Pity )
this is the ones what I don't want.....can`t find a picture of the ones I do tho :(

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Such a relief to know folks out there have alternative ways of getting around the various problems these old bikes throw up. I did look at removing the new speedo internals and fitting them into the old cup. That won't work because the new 'gubbins' are also deeper on the new one and so won't fit the old cup. I'll follow up on your suggestions Gup and let you know how it turns out. Cheers. Rob
Hello rob, if you want more details, call in.
I made first a test one with an old rubber. If the idea should work. Sorry the tekst on the drawings is in Dutch. I' ve put it also on de bsa forum.NL .
One tip, the right diameter of cutting the hole is over the center of the rubber mountings on the bracket.
Succes, gup
