Hi all,
the A10 has under gone a complete rebuild ie 1 new conrods from thunder engineering
2 reground crank
3 rebored barrels
4 new guides and valves in iron head
5 new srm oil pump
6 electric start system with new triumph clutch 4 spring 7 plate
The mag is a BTH Electronic both plugs sparking, ignition timing is set at 33 degrees as stated for electric starter
the carb is a monobloc 376 as before rebuild
After all that it will not start not a pop or a bang nothing
thinking now to get fresh petrol and put the spare bth mag which does spark well also got new coils with
leads from BTH might try them other than that I don't know.
Any ideas Cheers Ray
Hi Ray,
Is there fuel getting through and have you tried swapping the plug leads over? Leave them where they are on the mag and just swap them at the plugs as the timing could be 360ยบ out in that it is sparking on the exhaust stroke rather than the compression stroke.
Dave.
hi dave,
Thanks for the reply I poured some fuel down the plug hole nothing, tried changing over the leads again
nothing.will try and squirt some carb cleaner through the carb see if it fires.
On the mag connections their is a yellow tab on the blue cable which I have connected to the timing side plug as i have done in the past I assume that is correct.
Cheers Ray
hi all,
I've not done anything regarding the a10 situation,I bought the conrods from Thunder engineering who I have known for 25 yrs,
I asked him are the conrods I bought are for the a10 he said yes ok just got that thing that won't go away.
Any thoughts cheers Ray
Have you tried a proper magneto on it? That would eliminate all potential electrical issues.
Maybe worth double checking valve timing if it getting fuel and spark
On a few occasions I have built a new engine that refused to start despitoe triple checking everything, In desperation I got the Easy Start out and it started after which it started fine. Not sure why, maybe the engine just needed to be shown how to run!
Its about 25 years since I fitted the BTH to my A10 but I recall it being much easier than a mag so less likely to get it wrong.
By the way the only maintenance its needed is the occasional new plugs.
Hi all,
Thanks for replies I have spare bth electronic mag which I will try,the beauty of these is no points to worry about.
On my triumphs I have 2 bth mags and a k2f electronic mag never had any problems with all 3, as I say very easey to setup
my 7 year old grandson could do it.
I drove over toTMS at Nottinham this morning and bought new head bolts (mine are getting abit worse for wear)
also gasket set, He said they are no longer going to restock bsa spares don't know why I was lucky to get what I did at first he said he didn' think he had them.
This would be a shame.
Cheers Ray
I started using TMS when Gaggs shut down. Very handy for me so its a pity they are winding down the BSA stuff.
Hi all,
Yes it is a shame he is a Leicester lad had many conversations about the old days ha,
still be able to get Triumph bits though.
Cheers Ray
Hi all,
An update on the a10 a friend has loaned me a k2f mag managed to get the bike running after some considerable effort,
will probably buy a new carburettor I dont really want to buy a k2f when I have a bth electronic mag we'll see.
cheers Ray
