Title: Still no oil returning with new hepolite oil pump
Post by: DGBland on 19 Jan, 2024, 17:46
Sorry to go on about this problem but
I recently posted a topic asking for help after fitting a new hepolite oil pump. I got lots of very good advice and worked my way through all the posts and I am still struggling. There is no problem at all with the oil feed.

I seen some advice on a website saying I also need to prime the actual pump not just put about 200 ml of oil in the crankcase. This would be done by forcing oil back through the return side of the oil pump with a syringe. I am assuming this would eliminate any air locks.
Is this an option that might make a difference?

I have tried
Replacing the quill, rubber grommets and oil pressure spring and bearing [although oil feed is not a problem]
I have checked  for obstructions in the the return pipe removing the pipe and joint at the crankcase. Blowing through the return pipe into the tank.
I have checked and double checked to make sure the pump is seated properly and that the gasket is in exactly the right position.
Every time I try I put oil in the crankcase so there is oil to return
I have not replaced the gauze filter yet, assuming that this shouldn't make much difference as there is always plenty of oil in the sump? I don't know if this is aftermarket, being brass although the holes look very small. Besides the oil was returning with this filter.
Thanks David

firstly, gasket... presumably you have checked that all holes match and not causing an obstruction?

I use a old oil can with the lever and squirt oil in both tubes exiting the crank case. Turning the crank in the correct direction should show oil being pushed out of one, this will be the return pipe. Took me ages once when I had the pipes crossed, then re read the manual and it said "note pipes are crossed" .

If this method does not show oil flow in or out then make sure the pump is working!! Remove pump and fill all holes with oil, turning the shaft should see oil going in or out.

not had a problem with the ones Ive fitted but did buy a new carb from Amal once and it was blocked with swarf from machining. Being a machinist I get it in the neck from above if they find any on my parts;;

finally , presume the bike is fitted with the ball and spring in the correct position , spring into case and ball into body.
