Cheers

The dynamo should be an E3LM for a magdyno. You can convert to 12V simply by fitting a DVR2 regulator or similar but it will need to run at higher revs before it creates a charge, so may not charge sufficiently at in town speeds. I converted my own to 12V by fitting a 12V field winding, a 12 V armature and a DVR2 regulator. More expensive but it is completely converted and shows a charge even at idle.

Thanks Derek,  I will look into those parts and  do the full conversion, is the dynamo , or the mounting of it  troublesome ? .cheers.

To do a full 12V conversion requires completely dismantling the dynamo which isn't difficult but can be a bit tricky. So if it might be best just to go for changing the regulator. Plenty others have no problem with that.
The dynamo is mounted on top of the magneto, held there by a metal strap and through bolt with a special nut on the magneto casing. Remove the nut, slacken the strap, you'll have to loosen the strap that goes over both the dynamo and magneto too, the withdraw the dynamo to the LH side.

Ok thank you , I have ordered a drive gear ,so that will be interesting,  I will order a DVR2 reg  soon . Do you mean then 6v will generate enogh power except at low rpm and control with the dvr2  ?  I was told the dynamo might be ok  ! ? But ill see what happens , im not too electronically gifted 😬 Cheers

The advice you have is spot on.
I have an old Dave Lindsley one on my roadster I had it put together by Sean Hawker a while back works well.
You say it is 597cc
Is it bored and stroked?

And remember that your bike will be positive earth, so buy a regulator to suit unless you want to change to a negative earth system.

Yes I will check the + or - earthing , . And yes it's been bored and stroked ,it has an M20 crank and been bored 94x90 , intake and exhaust have been opened up and it has a 1 ¾ header , it seems quite torquey , it needs some work but alot has been done it has a stainless rear rim and stainless spokes front and rear , I had an issue with the clutch drum centre nut thread , found another 7 /16 nut  , so just fixed that and polished up the cover , and test ridden ,   Do they originally have ball bearing steering head bearings , I have fork wobble or shudder under braking and I can see the movement on the damper knob, I've adjusted them and it's better, at least needs new grease or replacing and check the fit , of cups , i see new kits available on ebay  ! Are all of those kits made in India  ? Does  anyone  know what size the front brakes are 7 " ? , old style hubs not alloy
Cheers .
