Title: A65 gearbox sealed bearing
Post by: RICH on 15 Jan, 2024, 12:40
Advice required! I am in the process of building an A65 motor which is a first for me.
I have just received a sealed gearbox bearing (sealed both sides) from a reputable parts distributor.
My question is:- should I remove the inner seal to allow oil to access the bearing race, or should I retain both seals?
Thanks.

Rich

Hi Rich,

I would remove the inner seal.  These bearings work hard so the constant presence of gear box oil is a good thing.  Still fit the usual seal as this helps to keep every thing a bit cleaner as the sprocket fits in to it.

Hi,
All oil seals need lubrication during use and installation.

If you leave the outer seal on the bearing and fit the sprocket oil seal it will need some form of lubrication, I put some high quality grease between.

Best wishes...

SKF use a double lip seal, I've had no issues with leaks when using these and a standard bearing.

If you warm your case up with a heat gun it will make the seal very easy to fit.
