Good day all. Can someone advise if I need to remove the engine to remove the gearbox from my A7 Shooting Star (swing arm) I need to replace the oil seal on the output drive shaft and very stuck as to how to progress! Sure to access the final drive sprocket doesn't require the engine out?? Any advice greatly appreciated 👍
Primary cover and clutch removed and off side engine plates removed and gear box can be removed without removing engine. Bit of a fiddle but can be done!
Remove n/s footrest. remove chain case cover. remove primary chain , engine sprocket. remove clutch. remove inner chain case. remove rear chain after undoing the the large nut holding on the rear sprocket remove the sprocket. remove the large circlip holding the gearbox seal in place, lever out the circlip which will be tight. Tap in the new seal and as Haynes book of lies says reasemble in reverse order. No need to remove any engine plates.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I had hoped to replace the seal from the primary case side without touching the gear box as suggested, but there is a pressed tin affair which is the end of the chain cover and this can't be removed without withdrawing the gearbox... seems crazy! I'm encouraged however the engine can stay in with a bit of fiddling 👍
