Dear All,
Could someone please advise me on how to fit a new speedo cable to a C15? It sounds like it should be simple.
There is a notch beneath the headlight nacelle in the right position for the cable to feed through, but it is too narrow for the thumb nut on the cable to pass through it. Do I really need to remove the whole of the metal cover from the top of the fork trees in order to make space for the cable to pass through? I can't see any other way to do it but this seems mental.
I thought that BRIT bikes were supposed to be easy to work on but maybe this is just the early ones. Doh! :(

Ian
I remove the 2 lower yoke clamp bolts and offer the thumbnut upwards at the same time tweaking the centre area of the hlamp cowl to give a whisker more room.
Or twist a tyre lever in that area.
Once the thumbnut is there , it might need an upward thump to help it upwards.
OK Thanks! That sounds like what I was expecting to hear but it is good to have it confirmed. I also thought of filing a few thou' off of the nut. It all sounds a bit extreme but maybe the nuts on the early original cables were a smidge smaller.
I also note that the connection on my original speedo is off centre and in line with the notch. The new Indian Smiths replica speedo has a central connection which will force the cable into a dogleg shape wearing the cable faster. Maybe I will go with the original speedo after all even if it is in KMH.
Regards,
Ian
OK I undid the two clamp bolts and the big caps and the whole shroud just slid down making space to get the cable in, thanks!
I note that, as per a lot of the bike, the clamp bolts look to have been replaced with M8 metrics sawn to length. Does anyone know what these should be? I am guessing 1/3" , maybe Whitworth?
Ian
Forget that I asked. It turns out that they are 5/16" . I ordered a pair from Classic bike parts.
Now you have the speedo sorted, keep the speed below 100mph!!!
Only 100 mph?! ???
