Title: Gear selector shaft repair
Post by: Rob Neal on 30 Oct, 2023, 18:39
Next item on the 'to fix' list on the A65 (1962) project is the gear selector shaft spline.  It's completely worn out and there's been a previous attempt to 'fix' it by way of a badly aligned cross drilling. I've come across a Performance Engineering Services repair item PES 68-3294R.   I'm willing to give it a go but does anyone have experience of this and perhaps provide tips/advice?  Rummaging through my pile of spares I have found 4 selector shafts with serviceable splines which are I believe from an A50. If anyone is in need of one of these let me know. ATB. Rob

Hi Rob,

The A50 shaft should fit the A65 if from the same year.
As well as the kit from PES I believe that Draganfly offer a repair service.
Dave.

I had PES repair my shafts. I did buy some from another supplier and doing the work would have been achievable for me but taken time which I couldn't afford.

The shafts from PES are made from a much tougher material than most of the replacement shafts on the market. I sent them two and they came back repaired. Good job done and I am very happy with the work.

When you have it done. Consider replacing the gear lever as you would be surprised how much the original one would have been crushed down to try and get it to fit the original, often the splines in the lever have been deformed in the process too. New lever and it all goes together like a knife through butter and has no slop.

Thanks everyone for the replies.  I'll go ahead with the PES repair.  Rob
