I posted a week or two back about wet sumping on this newly acquired project bike.
I was expecting to see a ball bearing at the bottom end of the scavenge pipe - which would stop oil draining back down into the sump?
As the attached photo shows, there seems to no sign of a ball bearing. Am I right in thinking it should be visible? And that the normal 'at rest' position would be at the very bottom of the pipe? Could it be stuck further up the pipe? Is this pipe detachable working through the sump hole? Would squirting some brake cleaner up the pipe encourage the ball to put in an appearance? Is there a way to b'blow it down from above - assuming it is somewhere up there?
Thanks!
I'll answer my own question - just in case it helps someone else. Seems that the ball bearing is fitted near the top of the pipe, near the pump. So is effectively not visible at the bottom.
My pal had a c15 and said it was wetsumping and no return back to the tank.
I went over there to explore and found he'd left it running on the side stand and sure enough no return back to the oil tank.
I picked the bike up and sat on it keeping it vertical and instantly a full flow back to the tank.
