Title: Model ID
Post by: Jonperry64 on 27 Oct, 2023, 20:05
I know nothing much about BSA bikes apart from having ridden a sorned Bantam as a teenager on Salisbury Plain. I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on the bike in this lovely photo of my late father in law. The model and year would be a great start. Many thanks. Jon

I would say that it is a C10 250cc side valve, very early post WW2. You can just see the contact breaker housing or distributor to the rear of the exhaust pipe.

The C10 was reintroduced with girder forks in November 1945 and then around June 1946 it was fitted with telescopic forks. So between those dates.

It is not a prewar model which would have had the speedo drive taken from the front wheel on the brake plate.

Below is from the 1945 catalogue, you should be able to find photos on the internet.

Thanks so much for that info Julian. That's exactly what I was after. Much appreciated. I'll now read up a bit about that model. Cheers.

Last one I saw for sale, just yesterday was on facebook for £950 which I thought was quite cheap and it looked very nice machine, I was tempted to buy it myself but I have too many bikes at the moment.
