Title: Refurbishing Indicator switch on '71 A65 OIF
Post by: Richard PS on 15 Oct, 2023, 20:26
Having fitted a new loom and added indicators to my bike, I found that the indicators would not work. Traced the problem to the handlebar switch and stripped it, cleaned up the contacts and they work.
Now I am faced with putting the switch back together. I have ordered a set of replacement springs, rocker switch etc but what is the best technique for putting it all together. Looks like a real faff with lots of opprtunity to lose the very small components!

I don't know the specifics of your switch but a general point is to do the work inside a clear polythene bag so that when the springs spring you at least catch them!

Thanks for that. Good idea, I will give it a go.

I've just rebuilt mine, not that bad really.
I use di-electric grease for corrosion protection, with the benefit of it holding things in place whilst assembling it.

Had to do this recently. If you hold the switch body horizontal, insert all the buttons, balls and springs and push the internal plate down carefully keeping it square it's feasible. Hold the plate down with your thumb and check switch movement before doing the screws up.

Thank you both for these ideas. Reassuring to know it can be done!
I am thinking of using wires in the push button springs to guide them into the cups in the plate, which has suitable holes.
I'll let you know how I get on.
