Title: Amal production
Post by: Dibble on 05 Oct, 2023, 08:23
Morning all can anyone tell me if the Amal monobloc 689 is still in production? I have contacted Amal but as yet no reply! Im hoping to buy a new pair for the hornet but so far no joy. Plenty of 389's. Also considering swapping to Premier but I'll ask about that at a later date! Thanks.
Dave

Last I checked. They stopped doing production of the 689 as there wasn't enough demand.

 :) :) :) :)

Whats the difference, I simply don't know and Im interested. They are doing three different bodies for the 389.

I think
1 1/8
1 5/32
1 3/16

Does that encompass 689 basic requirement.

Looking from air intake side the basic difference is 389 has float bowl on the left and 689 has float bowl on the right. Jet block different.

Yes thats it precisely Julian. Its just the originality thing left and right handed float  chambers etc. Cant see any problems using a pair of 389's! Only the cost maybe!!

The 65' Lightning had a pair of same sided carbs. The change was only short lived for a couple of years but made for a more attractive appearance.

I think it's a shame Burlen have ceased making 689's.

The introduction of the 689 meant that twin carbs could then be mounted with the air and throttle screws on the outside of both carbs and accessible for adjustment by the rider.
