Title: A65 Export/Import Details
Post by: Iain Allen on 24 Sep, 2023, 18:00
Hi
I'm a new BSA owner and just bought an export 1969 BSA Lightning which I assumed was exported to the US but I'm doubting my assumptions. Its now registered in the UK but speedo drive etc is a problem.
Is there any way of finding out where it was initially exported to so I can work out what drive was fitted?
I've joined the owners club but not received my details as yet and can't access all the info available.
I'm just trying to sort out part numbers as I think I have a European export rather than US and have the wrong speedo drive and speedo- I think my drive is a European 2:1 drive, it is stamped as one.
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks in advance for any info
Iain

In the 1969 model year A65 parts book the KPH speedo drive is listed as 2 to 1 and the MPH drive 1.25 to 1. A dating cert from the club would 'possibly'establish where the bike was originally shipped to. HTH

Thanks, that does help.

I've downloaded a parts book so I'll order a new drive and speedo.
